Must-listen: Lorde's new song 'Perfect Places'.

Lorde has unveiled ‘Perfect Places’, the second single from her upcoming sophomore album, ‘Melodrama’. The upbeat, wistful track is the final track on the album and, like the rest of the record, was co-written with Jack Antonoff.

Lorde has described the album as based around a single house party. “With a party, there’s that moment where a great song comes on and you’re ecstatic,” she told the New York Times Magazine, “and then there’s that moment later on where you’re alone in the bathroom, looking in the mirror, you don’t think you look good, and you start feeling horrible.” From the sound of ‘Perfect Places’, it sounds as if she’s made peace with that horrible feeling and decided to just have fun by the end of the party: “What the fuck are perfect places anyway?” she shrugs at the song’s ending.

The track follows the March release of first single ‘Green Light’ and promotional track ‘Liability’, both which she performed on ‘Saturday Night Live’ and last week’s ‘Later… with Jools Holland’. She has also debuted new tracks ‘Homemade Dynamite’, ‘Sober’ and ‘Sober II (Melodrama)’ at live shows, meaning that six of the album’s 11 tracks have now been heard in some capacity.

This past weekend, Lorde played at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Hull, and will perform at Governor's Ball in New York City today (June 2nd). Prior to the arrival of 'Melodrama', she will appear at the Free Press Summer Fest in Houston, Texas, on June 4th and Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee on June 11th.

‘Melodrama’ drops Friday 16th June. Listen to ‘Perfect Places’ below:
